Title

[Platform_Linux] Fullscreen on wrong monitor

Description

Problem Description:
Flash player fullscreens to the incorrect monitor at incorrect resolution when using TwinView in Linux.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Configure dual monitors in Linux. Any version of Linux and Flash should be fine; I am using NVIDIA TwinView, Flash 10.3.181.26, Ubuntu 11.04, 64-bit. The monitors should not be running separate X sessions.
2. Open any Flash video in any browser, e.g. a Youtube video in Firefox 4. Press the button to make the video fullscreen.

Actual Results:
The video goes fullscreen on the LEFTMOST monitor. If your screen resolutions are different, it may also be displayed at the wrong resolution.

Expected Results:
The video should fullscreen on the same monitor as the browser window that launched it, at the correct resolution for that monitor.

Workaround (if any):
HTML5.

Bug has never been fixed for Linux, although known for several years! It's a real shame, Adobe!

Why can't you just really FIX IT instead of falsely marking this unsolved bug as fixed!?! There's not even a workaround! How can that be? I mean Adobe isn't just a small team of 5 or 4 people who spend their freetime working on this software.

This bug still occurs for me. Using Ubuntu and firefox 16.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 and flashplugin-installer 11.2.202.243ubuntu0.12.04.1. All fullscreen flash opens on my primary monitor except youtube which opens on the same monitor as the window was on.

Hi, this started happening today on my Windows 7 64bit laptop.

    My setup is as following:
    - 1600x900 Main laptop monitor, to the right, configured as secondary
    - 1680x1050 Additional monitor, to the left, configured as primary, connected through VGA
    - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

Using fullscreen on the leftmost monitor works fine, but when I try to open it on the rightmost one, it jumps to the left monitor with the 1600x900 resolution.

Just tested latest 11.2.202.183 testing build. Bug is still present (besides the fact that now all YouTube videos are tinted in dark blue). When can we expect this to be fixed?
Using Gentoo Linux AMD64, Linux 3.0.6.

    @Coxtor2
Ubuntu uses compiz for compositing by default.

I've filed a bug report over at opencompositing:
    http://bugs.opencompositing.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1353

I really think compiz devs should at least look into this.
Who knows when Adobe will look into this (if at all)?

I can't agree ! I use the standard ubuntu configuration and absolutely nothing works. On youtube fullscreen is faulty too.

  • revinary

    11:30:36 AM GMT+00:00 Jul 23, 2011

    Bear in mind, though:
This only happens with compiz enabled.
For me it works fine with other window managers including metacity (even with metacity compositing enabled).

I'm using KDE here on Gentoo and it definitely exists there. In fact, the full screen opens on the correct screen, but it hasn't got the correct size. YouTube videos e.g. are playing in a centered rectangle of at most the original size of the video (which is only very seldom as big as my screen resolution, so it doesn't fill the whole screen). Any other videos (such as on Vimeo) are played in size of my smallest monitor in the lower left corner of my big screen. The rest is just black (or white, sometimes).

This is so ridiculous. Why can't this bug be fixed? People have been kindly asking for years. I noticed however this issue doesn't seem to be present in Kubuntu which is KDE based.

  • Manko10

    11:09:20 AM GMT+00:00 Jul 15, 2011

I can confirm: bug still present in Flash 11. This should indeed be a blocking issue.

  • DesertShadow

This issue is even more important when users have a 3D monitor (a slowly growing trend)

I cannot watch videos in 3D full screen (which makes it nearly impossible to watch videos in 3D at all, because circular polarization on horizontal interleaving halfs the vertical resolution, requiring a full screen video to be able to read the screen properly)

  • A. Page

    12:26:04 PM GMT+00:00 Jul 13, 2011

The problem still exists in v11.0.1.60 x64 (beta) from http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer11.html, as well.

  • Shuo Zhang

    7:13:03 PM GMT+00:00 Jun 30, 2011

I can repro this issue on real machine this time.

    Test Environment:
Ubuntu 11.04 + Firefox 4.0 + Latest Flash Player develop build
    Two monitor extension mode
    Left main monitor resolution: 1280*1024
    Right second monitor resolution: 1600*900

    Repro Steps:
    1. Open youtube video page at second monitor
    2. Click full screen

    Actual Result:
    1. Video full screen at main monitor
    2. Video resolution is not same with main monitor
    3. Click on blank area in second monitor, exit full screen.

    Expected Result:
    1. Video full screen at the monitor where browser located
    2. Video resolution same with displayed monitor
    3. Click on other area should not exit full screen

    Thanks
    Shuo

Flash video sites are unusable on a dual-monitor linux system.

  • aiguofer

    7:37:38 PM GMT+00:00 Dec 17, 2013

I have become used to working on a dual monitor setup, keeping contact apps such as irc, pidgin, and e-mail open on my secondary monitor and using my primary monitor for everything else. Having video cover up my contact apps prevents my quick response, and it wastes the quality of my larger primary monitor. This greatly hurts my workflow.

Fullscreen should open on the same monitor as the window is on. Currently it's always put on the primary monitor.

I have an external monitor aligned right of my notebook's LCD.
Fullscreen flash is always shown on the notebook screen nomatter which monitor the browser window is on.
This is true for Flash 10 "Square" AND Flash 11 beta on 64-bit Linux.

    PLEASE FIX THIS!

Please fix this very soon. This bug is a severe usability issue (makes fullscreen on my 27" + 19" TwinView monitor setup nearly unusable) which has now been open for about three years. It has ben reported by hundreds of different users and you haven't taken any action yet.
Now is the time to fix it eventually.

I've reported this issue previously and I had attached a sequence of sreenchots about how to reproduce in order to help fix it ( see http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-562).
Because this bug affects Flash player for Linux in the last 3 years (when it was originally reported), my vote is to be resolved.

Been waiting years to have this fixed. I want to be able to watch flash videos on the monitor I choose.
