[Platform_Windows]Keyboard Input Not Working - Windows 7 64 bit, Safari 5.1.2, Flash Player 11.1, 11.2

Problem Description:

In some complex movies, keyboard input does not work in the following configuration:

Windows 64 bit
Safari 5.1.2
Flash Player 11.1 / 11.2 (probably 10.1 or 10.2 as well)

This does not affect all movies. A simple Flex 4.5 built movie with a single text input works fine, however, in more complex movies text input may be completely non-functioning in the above configuration. There is something related to more complex movie configurations that triggers the problem - I have not identified what this might be.

Steps to Reproduce:

The movie I am experiencing this problem with is not externally available so I cannot provide access to it. However, thankfully this problem is exhibited by a Flex Movie published by Adobe and run on Adobe's servers - namely Tour De Flex.

Access Tour De Flex Web version here:

Click on search / filter button. Attempt to enter text into search box. Nothing appears.

This works fine in other configurations, but in Windows 64 / Safari 5.1.2 / FP 11.1 there is no keyboard input.

Actual Result:

Keyboard input ignored

Expected Result:

Keyboard input accepted

Any Workarounds:

None found so far

It looks like Abobe is neglecting the Flash after starting the contribution in HTML5.

Does anyone know if this will stil be an issue with Safari 6? It's pretty embarrassing that this has taken this long to fix. It really makes one wonder about the Adobe's commitment to Flash long-term. And really, it's this kind of lack of responsiveness and smug disregard for it's customers that put flash on Apple's hate-list in the first place. Fix this NOW adobe.

    @Zhe Wang
You have deffered this bug, if at all possible could you please elaborate on the deferral?
ie. Is there a time scheduled to assess this issue or is a fix planned?

Any information that could help myself or other developers decide how they should react to this issue would be appreciated.

Had the same problem that no keyboard events where being accepted.
I found out that when i removed the "fo1.addParam("wmode", "opaque");". It worked fine. )

Note that this issue also prevents typing spaces in text input fields in Windows Chrome (at least version 18+). Setting wmode to direct fixes the issue in Chrome and in Safari, but it's not an option for our company since our app depends on an opaque or transparent wmode.

My client and I have been waiting for this to be fixed for a while. We have an online Flash application and the crux of it is users editing text in the textfields. Since this bug makes it impossible for users to to that, it results in frustrated users. Our client is losing revenue with this issue.

Can you please prioritize this issue?

If you have design limitation. How it works in the lower versions of the Safari browsers (Safari 5.0).

This issue not a small issue to leave without fixing, lot of applications suffer with this issue.

Thanks for your reporting. Unfortunately we couldn't fix this bug for design limitation. We appreciate that anyone affected by this issue could leave vote notes about how it impacts you.

We use this functionality in some advertisements. Setting the wmode to window is not an option in overlay ads.
This results in complaining customers, useless ads, etc.

As a developer - work arounds to wmode='opaque' may need to be considered for already tried and tested applications.. This will impact on my productivity for quite some time if I were to go down this avenue. Also, some applications have a great deal more reliance on wmode='opaque' than others which means many features would need to be tweaked just to workaround this one issue. I am voting in hopes for a fix ASAP.

This bug doesn't really affect productivity, because nobody productive uses Safari for development. However it affects revenue, which is also important, because users can't use our product.

This bug has been preventing our Windows users in a number of large organizations from using our flagship mobile ad-building application ( for some months now. Our workaround is to convert people to using Macs, which has not generally been a problem for designers, but we'd rather give people the impression that Flash applications are actually cross-platform.

I need this issue fixed as well. Our application requires wmode=opaque. This is preventing users from logging in to our app when using Safari 5.1 on Windows 7. I realize not many people use Safari on Windows, but we still need to support the small fraction of users that do. Thanks.

We have the same problem with our applications. In our user base (from the latest logs) there was enough users for it to be a problem we need to handle somehow. Looking forward to have this bug fixed and/or possibly get a workaround until it is resolved.

EDIT: I noticed that I can only reproduce this bug when using wmode = opaque
I have tested with Flash Player 11.1 and 11.2 (latest beta).
Windows 7 64-bit system using both release player (64-bit) and debug players (32-bit)
