[Platform_Windows]AIR.SWF in-browser API is broken with FP + Chrome 21 + Windows

Problem Description:

The AIR.SWF in-browser API, as documented here:
is no longer working in Chrome 21 on Windows. It reports that AIR isn't installed when it really is.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. In AS3, download the air.swf from
2. After air.swf is loaded, call the SWF's getStatus() method.

Actual Result:

getStatus returns "available" even though AIR is actually installed.

Expected Result:

According to the air.swf docs, getStatus() should return "installed" when AIR is installed.

Any Workarounds:

See the attached project, airFromBrowser.fxp, which contains code that reproduces the problem (its pretty much taken from the AIR.SWF in-browser API docs, however).

The problem is occurs on Chrome 21 which is new at the time, and Adobe needs Google’s support to implement functionality in different way that fit Chrome’s sandbox change. withdrawn this and mark as DesignLimitation.

This is work that is tracked in the 11.6 release as a work item. Clsoing this bug, since there is no need to double track in feature and bug database.

Thank you for coming back to us with some news.
I would underline the gravity of this bug once more, it's a show stopper for many businesses. Furthermore google didn't change from npapi to ppapi from a day to the other but gave a precise roadmap and advices lot months in advance.

    Please hurry up,
we're not only losing trust in adobe,
    we're losing clients and money

We are currently spending great efforts working at this issue.

And here are some simple introduction to our work,

Google changed their Flash plugin to PPAPI Flash Player, and modify the NPAPI flash player to use Pepper instead. The Pepper API adds sandboxing, so some of the things that the NPAPI Flash player did are no longer possible to do under Pepper. But some of the modify work hasn't been completed yet. And we are now helped to do the work.

Since more than one month ago, developers has been trying to add the missing functions to PPAPI, and now we have reached an important milestone.

I believe this issue will be fixed in near recent. Please keep patient. Sorry for the inconvenience.

google is already providing a "pepper broker" in order to let 3rd parties develop "out of the sandbox" apis.
now adobe has to put some developers on that.
PLEASE DO IT! chrome on windows is a very large amount of people!

Marcus Fritze brings up a good point: being able to launch an AIR app from the browser is just the first step. I also use LocalConnection to communicate with the AIR app once its been launched.

Having some functionality work for other browsers but not chrome is truly frustrating. Its works perfectly for firefox and IE, and the fact that it doesn't work for chrome will push a lot of users away from using AIR. This bug seems to have been brushed under the carpet. Even a simple workaround would be greatly appreciated by many developers

This is making it very difficult for our customers using chrome to install our AIR application from a secure web page.

This is causing a very negative first experience for customers. I can't believe this isn't a higher priority for Adobe, I thought they were committed to Air moving forward but this is definitely making developers who chose Air look like they made a really poor decision.

I find the fact that, particularly given the severity, this issue has gone unresolved for so long to be incredibly disconcerting, if not alarming outright. Surely someone at Adobe must have been responsible for monitoring the Chrome roadmap and was aware of the impending NPAPI -> PPAPI transition! Further exacerbating this problem is the lax response:

"We're aware of this issue but neither Adobe nor Google have a solution planned at this time."

"Last I heard we had at least one developer investigating this issue"

"Flash Pepper (PPAPI) plug-in will be supported in Adobe Connect 9 later this year. Until then, use one of the following workarounds."

"I wanted to let you know that I hear you and I've relayed the sentiment along. I'm working on getting additional information from my management team."

Hasn't this platform been damaged enough by poor messaging?

Worse, what does this say about the corporate culture and standards at Adobe when the single employee responding on the message boards can't seem to get management's attention for a problem this crippling?

    Isn't this... possibly... an EMERGENCY?!?

For past 12 months we spent a lot of time and money working on a project that uses a combination of Flash and Adobe Air. The project is now close to completion, but last week the release of Chrome 21, which contains Pepper Flash on Windows broke the Air web installation functionality in our project. Our beta release date is in 2 weeks, so I need to know how long do Adobe think will take to fix the problem?
