[Platform_Windows]AIR.SWF in-browser API is broken with FP 188.8.131.52 + Chrome 21 + Windows
The AIR.SWF in-browser API, as documented here:
is no longer working in Chrome 21 on Windows. It reports that AIR isn't installed when it really is.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. In AS3, download the air.swf from http://airdownload.adobe.com/air/browserapi/air.swf
2. After air.swf is loaded, call the SWF's getStatus() method.
getStatus returns "available" even though AIR is actually installed.
According to the air.swf docs, getStatus() should return "installed" when AIR is installed.
See the attached project, airFromBrowser.fxp, which contains code that reproduces the problem (its pretty much taken from the AIR.SWF in-browser API docs, however).

I'm trying to launch our air app from chrome but as of 11.9 this fix does not work
8:14:18 AM GMT+00:00 Sep 7, 2013
Having some functionality work for other browsers but not chrome is truly frustrating. Its works perfectly for firefox and IE, and the fact that it doesn't work for chrome will push a lot of users away from using AIR. This bug seems to have been brushed under the carpet. Even a simple workaround would be greatly appreciated by many developers

This is the 3rd 'hard' bug in relation to Adobe AIR since August ...

2:25:21 PM GMT+00:00 Nov 6, 2012
This is making it very difficult for our customers using chrome to install our AIR application from a secure web page.
Fortunately, we have started porting our apps to a different platform - still no browser based install, but also no runtime requirements and we have an ETA on this.

When i try to launch AIR app via google chrome browser, nothing happens. In IE en FF it works without a problem.
12:10:01 PM GMT+00:00 Sep 17, 2012
This is causing a very negative first experience for customers. I can't believe this isn't a higher priority for Adobe, I thought they were committed to Air moving forward but this is definitely making developers who chose Air look like they made a really poor decision.

The 2 Adobe AIR apps that i built for a client can no longer be downloaded from their web site using the Adobe AIR badge installer. This is a major pain as they have a large Chrome base.

I find the fact that, particularly given the severity, this issue has gone unresolved for so long to be incredibly disconcerting, if not alarming outright. Surely someone at Adobe must have been responsible for monitoring the Chrome roadmap and was aware of the impending NPAPI -> PPAPI transition! Further exacerbating this problem is the lax response:
"We're aware of this issue but neither Adobe nor Google have a solution planned at this time."
"Last I heard we had at least one developer investigating this issue"
"Flash Pepper (PPAPI) plug-in will be supported in Adobe Connect 9 later this year. Until then, use one of the following workarounds."
"I wanted to let you know that I hear you and I've relayed the sentiment along. I'm working on getting additional information from my management team."
Hasn't this platform been damaged enough by poor messaging?
Worse, what does this say about the corporate culture and standards at Adobe when the single employee responding on the message boards can't seem to get management's attention for a problem this crippling?
Isn't this... possibly... an EMERGENCY?!?

we've deployed some AIR widgets in our BSCW groupware (www.bscw.de) using recommended AIR Badge installer and now chrome users are unable to install the widgets. please fix asap!

2:03:56 AM GMT+00:00 Aug 17, 2012
For past 12 months we spent a lot of time and money working on a project that uses a combination of Flash and Adobe Air. The project is now close to completion, but last week the release of Chrome 21, which contains Pepper Flash on Windows broke the Air web installation functionality in our project. Our beta release date is in 2 weeks, so I need to know how long do Adobe think will take to fix the problem?
4:07:58 PM GMT+00:00 Aug 16, 2012
All Chrome users are blocked from downloading our app.

I use badge installers and this destroys the process and my credibility.
11:12:39 AM GMT+00:00 Aug 15, 2012
This breaks our application on Chrome. We rely both on the badge install, as well as LocalConnection communication between Flash and AIR, both of which are broken with this update.
Adobe/Google - please do what it takes to resolve both of these issues.
11:02:03 AM GMT+00:00 Aug 15, 2012
This problem renders our application unusable in Chrome without modification to the plugin configuration, as our app relies on using browser-based launch feature after it has been installed. Browser-based launch fails, even if the app is properly installed.
